    SOLAR PASSIVE/ACTIVE
Solar energy comes from using the sun as fuel to create heat or energy. They have two kinds, active and passive. Active solar energy uses a technology called solar photovoltaic (pv). Passive solar energy gives off heat that provides light. Solar energy is great because it doesn't require burning fossil fuels it is also renewable and will never run out. Solar energy is however is not always available. When it is cold or raining the solar energy systems are unable to provide energy. Some solar energy systems work even when the sun is not shining.

Active energy is one of the most environmentally friendly technologies and its very easy to install. It uses a material called semiconductors to produce electricity. The material creates an electrically charge that can generate anything that uses electricity. The solar arrays come in many different sizes. They can be assembled into arrays or rows.
They are both pretty similar but yet different at the same time. Passive energy gets heat from the sun and turns it into lighting for buildings. Active energy is uses different technologies to provide light and heat. passive energy has sun space and trombe walls. they both are a good energy source and they both are Eco friendly. And they both are renewable.

A major source of California's electricity is hydroelectric power. In 2007, hydroelectric power plants produced 43,625 gigawatt-hours of electricity. California has average 400 hydroelectric power plants located on the eastern mountain ranges. The larger power plants are operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the state's Department of Water Resources. The smaller ones are operated by utilities.
2 types of conventional hydroelectric is facilities and run on rivers. Hydroelectric power plants provide power. In hydroelectric power plants water is pumped during off-peak from a reservoir at a lower elevation.

    Good job so far:)
In order for solar cells to work they need sunlight which carries photons.Once the photons hit the solar cells; the solar cells take the photons energy and creates an electrical current. So in order to create electricity you need a positive current and a negative current. Inside a solar cell there is n-type silicon material that keeps the positive electrons and the p-type keeps the negative electrons. This electrical current is then sent to the device or machine that needs to be powered.
Things that are being used to be powered by sunlight are cars, calculators, and many more. Redondo Union High School(RUHS) is planning to put solar panels over the parking areas to conserve energy and save money. The type of solar cell that Redondo will be using is called a photovoltaic cell. This is the most common cell and provides one of the strongest electrical currents that can be sent throughout the school.

Wind power is just wind moving propellers that spin. When they spin it starts a generator and that produces electricity. The wind is caused by the sun heating the earths surface unevenly. Most wind power comes from turbines that can stand to about as high as a 20-story building, and it has three 200ft long propellers. Before, farmers used windmills to grind their grain and to pump water. As long as the sun shines the wind will blow.
