Nuclear fusion is a nuclear reaction in which atomic nuclei of low atomic numbers fuse or connect to form a heavieith the release of energy. Nuclear fusion is a man made energy source and is still mostly in it's developmental stage. It involves the splitting of an atom, which generates or creates a very large amount of energy. Two nuclei with mass lower than iron releases energy while the fusion of nuclei release energy.
Fusion is the process by which the sun and other stars make big amounts of energy. The First stars are mostly made of hydrogen, hot temperatures in the center of the star triggers the nuclear fusion process which the hydrogen from the star is converted to helium. Once the star's temperature reaches 130 million kelvin a measurement of temperature in space, the star starts the process of turning the helium into carbon and oxygen. After that the stars burn out and bigger stars start to convert helium to carbon and oxygen to neon which is the chemical element of atomic number ten, and is an inert gaseous element of the noble gas group, and is obtained by distillation of liquid air. Neon can be fused or connected into silicon.finally the bigger stars nuclear fusion makes iron from the silicon.
One of the advantages of nuclear fusion are the fuel is readily available. Another advantage is unlike the burning of coal or other fossil fuels nuclear fusion doesn't give off toxins and air pollution to the atmosphere. one more advantage is, nuclear fusion has no problems with dangerous by-products.
There are also disadvantages to fusion like, scientists have not been able to suppress a fusion reaction long enough for them to be able to ignite a fusion reaction and make it self-sustaining any energy from the process. lastly many countries are not contributing any money because of the failure to find a solution to suppressing the energy.
Fusion technology consists of things like fusion reactors which are when neutrons that are produced from D-T fusion will be absorbed in a blanket containing lithium that surrounds the core. After that the lithium is transferred into tritium and helium they move what powers the reactor. the blanket must be at least one meter to slow down the hot energy neutrons. the kinetic energy of all the neutrons is absorbs by the blanket causing it to heat up. The energy from the heat will be put in a coolant and will be used to generate electricity. nuclear reactors are really good to use for power because unlike other power sources it yes does use abundant sources of fuel but also they will not leak radiation above normal background levels and produce less radioactive waste than current fission reactors but unfortunatly fusion reactors are still in the developmental stages and are not in use yet.
