Geothermal energy is very useful. Geothermal comes from greek words, the words are geo (of the Earth) and thermal (heat). In some countries geothermal energy has been used for over one thousand years. It is the heat of the magma in the outer core below Earths mantle. Geothermal energy is a clean, renewable resource from inside the earth. Its a renewable resource because the heat continuously is produced inside Earth.
Geothermal energy is found in earth's crust. How geothermal energy works is cold water is pumped down. Then the water is heated. After the water is heated the steam will rise to the plant. Geothermal energy is contained within magma, so the magma would heat up the water or other things. People say geothermal energy is unlimited and cheap.
You can turn geothermal energy into electricity. To do this, people need to drill wells a mile deep or more. They are drilled into underground reservoirs to faucet steam and hot water. Then it will drive turbines that are linked to electricity generators. In 1904 the very first electricity produced by geothermal energy was produced in Larderello, Italy. Now that people can produce electricity by geothermal energy there can be more electricity.
Geothermal energy can have disadvantages such as, There are only a few places where magma comes close to Earth's surface.Some places need to make very deep wells that would be needed to get to the magma. When we drill wells it could be very expensive. Even geothermal is really likely to play a growing part in the meeting energy needs in some regions.
Technologies have been developed to take advantages of geothermal energy. NREL performs research in this subject. They do this to develop advantages in technologies for geothermal energy. People all over been trying new ways to use geothermal energy. Geothermal energy has helped us a lot.
