Notes on Biomass:
Biomass is a biological, or recently living organisms, renewable energy source
Carbon is used to construct biomass and absorbs from the atmosphere CO2 by plant life from solar energy
Biomass is made of:
virgin wood:forestry, aboricultural activities, wood processing
energy crops:high yield crops grown specifically for energy applications
Agricultural residues:residues from agriculture harvesting or processing
Food waste:from food and drinks manufacture, preparation or processing, and post-consumer waste
Industrial waste and co-products:from manufacturing and industrial process

5% of biomass is used for energy in the United States.
As an energy source, biomass can either be used directly via combustion to produce heat, or indirectly after converting it to various forms of biofuel.
Converting biomass to biomass fuels can be achieved by different methods those methods are thermal, chemical, and biochemical methods.
Biomass fuels provided 5 percent of the energy used in the United States in 2012. Of this, about 45 percent was from wood and wood-derived biomass,44 percent from biomass fuels (mainly ethanol),and about 11 percent from municipal waste.

Researchers are trying to develop more ways to burn more biomass and less fossil fuels. Using biomass for energy may cut back on waste.
Biomass is matter. Some stuff are like dead trees, tree branches, yard clippings, left-over crops, and wood chips can all be burned easy. In California 60 million tons of biomass are being produced each year.

Using biomass fuels, it can help reduce global warming compared to a fossil fuel power plant. But today new ways of biomass are still being discovered. Another way is to produce ethanol, a liquid alcoholic fuel.It can be used in special types of cars that are made for using alcoholic fuels instead of gasoline. These two chemicals can be combined.

This reduces our dependence on oil and other nonrenewable fossil fuels.
This is why biomass is a renewable energy. More stuff is being discovered in the energy of biomass, but biomass fuels are not widely used today.Biomass fuels play a larger role in meeting energy needs for economies.
