The Fredonia Gas and Light company was born, becoming the first American gas company. In 1859, Edwin Drake dug a well and connected it to a town near is home in Pennsylvania. The idea that gas could be safely brought to the surface and transported through a pipeline was successful. In 1891, the first pipeline in America was built. It went from Indiana to Chicago and was 120 miles long. The transportation of natural gas was here but not very effective until 1920 when new technologies and inventions came into effect creating new ways to drill and use the energy. Natural gas was here for the world to use and make our world a brighter more comfortable place to be with the use of an energy from deep within the world itself.
